Choose Joy.

My mamas will get this reference, dads you might too.

Do y’all ever feel like ‘sadness’ from the movie Inside Out? “Obsessing over the weight of life’s problems.” The burden of your 9-5 job that you hate, the piles of laundry yet to be folded, the house yet to be cleaned, the broken dishwasher you were supposed to get fixed but things got in the way, the good news that never came, the chaos that never seizes to stop…yeah me too.

Then I think about Joy, bubbly, energetic, always happy no matter what joy…and suddenly I’m annoyed at how “joyful” she is. Like no one is that happy, right? Wrong.

You see, that’s a movie, but in life, we CHOOSE to be happy. We have the free will to allow life’s “problems” to weigh us down or to decide that those “opportunities” will be used for good!

Easier said than done, trust me I know, but when you make a constant, daily effort to give thanks, right where you are, in your mess, your uncertainty, your brokenness, you will feel lighter, your perspective will shift, you will find joy.

Life is hard. It is, but I find so much comfort in knowing 3 things; I am never alone, God is always with me. There is always something to be thankful for. And that it is all working together for the good.

It’s ok to be sad every once in a while. You can’t have one without the other.

Without sadness how could you experience how good joy feels? Without negativity, how can you be positive? Without darkness, how could you know the light?

Just don’t stay there. Move, pray, give it to God and ask for a change in prespective.

You will feel the joy, you will find the positives, you can know the light, you just have to keep the faith.
